Remote Learning Contingency Plan

COVID-19

Please see below our risk assessment.  As ever, the health and safety of our children and staff remain our top priority. Please be aware that this is a rapidly changing situation and that whilst the displayed information is accurate at the time of posting we would recommend that parents monitor the situation by checking the official websites regularly for any updates and changes.

Department for Education (DfE) Coronavirus helpline - The Department for Education has launched a new helpline to answer questions about COVID-19 related to education. Staff, parents and young people can contact the helpline by telephoning 0800 046 8687 or by emailing DfE.coronavirushelpline@education.gov.uk.  Opening hours are 8am to 6pm (Monday to Friday).

The advice from the Department for Education is still that no school should close in response to a suspected (or confirmed) COVID-19 case unless directed to do so by Public Health England.

COVID-19 Catch Up Premium Funding - We are committed to providing the highest quality education for all our children regardless of background or barrier to learning in all aspects of school life.  "Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are likely to have been more affected particularly severely by closures and may need more support to return to school and settle back into school life.  Whilst all pupils will benefit from the EEF recommendations, it is likely that some forms of support will be particularly beneficial to disadvantaged".

Parents’ Guidelines - Remote Learning via Zoom

When a child is away from school as a result of Covid, s/he will be taught at home where some of their learning will be via ‘live’ Zoom lessons.  Timings of assemblies will vary, but during this time please access The Oak academy assemblies which can be found here  https://classroom.thenational.academy/assemblies

Please find below some helpful guidance.

What are the best devices for my child to use with Zoom?

As long as devices are connected to your home internet, Zoom will work on a computer, laptop, tablet or a mobile phone.

How can my child gain access to Zoom, Mathletics, Libresoft, Read Theory (selected classes only) or Times Table Rockstars?

Your child’s Zoom link will be supplied in an email sent home. Logins for all other online resources have previously been shared with the children by their teachers.  If you do not have these, please contact the School Office.

What if I have an issue with the online learning platforms?

If you have any difficulties with accessing the work set, you can email info.raleigh@sfet.org.uk and a member of staff will aim to respond to your query within 48 hours.

When should I log on to Zoom?

Years 2 – 6

You should log your child in for the start of the day between 8.40 and 8.50.  They will then join in with the lessons as they happen in the class.  The class teacher will clearly need to spend the majority of their time with the children who are in school, however both they and the teaching assistant will touch base with your child from time to time.  They will be asked to unmute and join in with class discussions, as they would normally be in the classroom.  During assembly times they should leave the Zoom classroom and can undertake either reading or online learning via the digital platforms listed above.   Some lessons, such as teaching of recorders, will not work remotely, so the class teacher will ask your child to leave the Zoom meeting and undertake another activity independently.  Any resources that you will need will be on the OneDrive, which can be accessed via the year group sections of the school website.

Years R and 1

Clearly, these young children cannot access Zoom lessons in the same way as the older year groups, so they will have activities and work set on the OneDrive.  These should be worked on at home during the course of the week.  They will be able to log into the Zoom classroom when the teacher will be working with the class as a whole.  These times will be 9am, 1.10 and 2.45.

What are the guidelines for my child’s use of Zoom?

There are several key guidelines that we will be following in order to ensure positive online behaviours on the school digital platforms. These include:

• Children behaving in a courteous manner with their peers and teachers while online.

• Children having adequate time away from devices and having enough opportunity for physical activity.

• Children participating in live lessons in an appropriate place in their house (avoiding their bedroom if possible)

• Children wearing school-appropriate attire (i.e. not pyjamas) when in live lessons

What are the guidelines for my parents and carers use of Zoom?

  • Will ensure the computer being used is in a quiet area, as free from distraction as is practical
  • Will wear suitable clothing, as will anyone else in the household.
  • Will use polite and appropriate language when in the vicinity of the live lesson, including any family members in the background.
  • Will not engage directly in the zoom lesson in any way, but may help their child/ren with any independent work
  • Will not save or record any footage or photos from the online lessons, this includes any pre-recorded lessons
  • Will not comment on the content or delivery of any parts of the lesson, either during or after the lesson. This includes the use of all social media platforms such as WhatsApp

Thank you for your continued support…….
